15th Edition of ISU’s Executive Space Course – New Comers

ISU’s 15th edition of the Executive Space Course (ESC) welcomed 21 executives in total from 11 countries including Malta (a first for the ESC!), Poland, Germany, Norway, Luxembourg, Norway and many others.

ESC17 took place from 3rd to 7th April 2017 at the International Space University (ISU) central campus. Enterprises represented this year included amongst others Inmarsat, HE Space, SES, Thales, organisations such as ESA, Enterprise Estonia and the Norvegian Space Agency as well as also a pleiad of companies which had not collaborated with ISU before like ATG Europe, MSV, Avanti Communications, We Love Apps, Future Processing, …

The academic program was once again very comprehensive including amongst others law lectures by a world renowned law expert dr. Tanja Masson. And a workshop in the Concurrent Design Facility.

Michal Backowski, a participant from Future Processing said:

“I especially enjoyed the lecture about orbits and found very useful, the workshop on how to build a satellite, even though, on a smaller scale and in a short amount of time. It did also provide me with a good insight into the sub-systems involved.”

As per previous years the participants discovered the city of Strasbourg, from a different perspective, by boat. They also had the opportunity to taste local specialities in a couple of the more authentic restaurants of the area, the Gurtlerhoft and Le Chateau de l’Ile.

Dr. Reinhold Ewald was the guest speaker for ESC on Wednesday night and shared with the group his experience as an astronaut. A ‘meet and greet’ the masters’ students was organised for the ESC participants on Thursday 6th April in the ‘launch pad’ area! Another useful networking opportunity for both ESC and MSS participants.

The Executive Space Course and especially this 15th edition is probably best described by one of the participants:

“A great experience and excellent course provided by very knowledgeable lecturers covering all space disciplines from fundamentals to future trends, in a comprehensive manner. Also very good for networking!”
