SSP15 ‘Dream Big’ video accepted by the European Geosciences Union

The short movie 'DREAM BIG' made by International Space University (ISU) alumni as part of their Humanities department activities at Space Studies Program SSP15 has been accepted for screening at the European Geosciences Union annual Assembly GeoCinema session in Vienna this April.

Dream Big movie:

Made by Oriol Gasquez, Hansley Noruthun, Dr. Niamh Shaw and Saho Yajima, with original music score by Elburz Sorkhabi, the movie was a response to the question 'Using Space to Inspire'  set by Humanities co-chairs Prof. Geoff Steeves and Dr. Norah Patten as part of their department activities that summer.

Set as a series of questions posed to a number of SSP15 faculty and participants and then to children from the Ohio University staff, aged between 5-9 years, the movie explores the themes of the inspirational power of Space, the importance of role models and how to maintain the unquestioning dreams of children as they progress into young adults.

The European Geosciences Union (EGU) is Europe’s premier geosciences union, dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the Earth, planetary, and space sciences for the benefit of humanity, worldwide. The Geocinema session at this EGU annual assembly showcases movies that explore all facets of geosciences from ocean depths to outer space, and content ranges from animation, live action, videography to motion graphics.

'Dream Big' has been submitted to other science art film festivals across Europe and we shall keep you posted of progress. The all SSP team of filmmakers would like to take this opportunity to thank again all those who participated in their movie, especially Steve Riesbeck at Ohio University for assisting in sourcing the children for the project.

Follow Dr. Niamh Shaw on Twitter to find out how the screening of the video goes. She will be attending the conference presenting other Art science work at EGU. And actively preparing for SSP17 in Cork, Ireland for which she will be an associate core chair.

"My life can be clearly divided between before and after ISU. ISU was a breaking point that created a world of possibilities in front of me."

Carmen Felix - MSS10 -

"Attending ISU has been, for me, the ultimate eye-opening experience. Attending the Master of Space Studies allowed me to pursue my personal interests with a limit determined only by my imagination."

Diego Urbina - MSS09 -

"My space flight was the changing point in my whole life. Since my background was mechanical engineering, I did not know much about space, which led me to the International Space University."

Soyeon Yi - SSP09 -

"ISU is broadening the global space community and connecting New Space countries to old and mighty ones."

Mart Vihmand - SSP11&MSS13 -
