The ISU team is excited to announce that the 2025 Southern Hemisphere Space Studies Program (SHSSP) is now open for applications https://www.isunet.edu/shssp/. This unique program will be held from 13 January to 7 February 2025 in Adelaide, Australia in partnership with the University of South Australia (UniSA) https://www.unisa.edu.au/. Since 2011, the SHSSP has empowered space professionals and enthusiasts by providing a unique education, tailored to the Southern Hemisphere space ecosystem. The four-week course is designed to enhance the role of space for countries in the Southern Hemisphere and their collaborators, building human capability and capacity.
SHSSP25 will focus on space exploration, space policy, and space services, providing a well-rounded exposure to space science, space systems engineering and technology, space business, project leadership, and space legal and regulatory issues. Participants will benefit from ISU’s renowned interdisciplinary educational method, including core lectures from international and Australian experts, workshops, and ‘white paper’ team projects led by faculty and invited experts.
Participants will engage in an international, interactive working environment, sharing experiences with professionals, graduate researchers, and senior undergraduate students. Completing the program can lead to a graduate qualification or credit towards undergraduate programs in Australia and internationally. Graduates will join the largest professional network dedicated to space with ISU alumni, faculty members, and visiting lecturers, enhancing their global connections in the space community.
ISU President, Prof. Nicolas Peter commented on the upcoming SHSSP, stating:
“The 2025 Southern Hemisphere Space Studies Program in Adelaide, in collaboration with the University of South Australia, will provide participants the opportunity to learn about the multifaceted dimensions of space and the spark to launch their careers into orbit.”
SHSSP25 will include lectures, hands-on workshops, public space events, and professional visits in the local area. Activities will include using local remote sensing data, GPS field exercises, and collecting satellite data. Public events with invited speakers and visits to space-related facilities will further enrich the learning experience. A key component is the White Paper Team Project, where participants work in groups to address issues pertinent to nations of the Southern Hemisphere. The resulting team project report will be suitable for sharing with organizations and agencies or for submission to international professional conferences.
The application deadline for scholarships is 31 October 2024, and the final application deadline is 13 December 2024.
