On 29 August 2022, the International Space University (ISU) participated in the 2022 European Centre for Space Law (ECSL) Summer School. The ECSL was established in 1989 under the auspices of the European Space Agency (ESA) and its main objective is to develop and promote an understanding of the legal framework relevant to space activities and is thus a natural partner for ISU. Each year the ECSL is being held in another European country.
Prof. Nicolas PETER in charge of the Policy, Economics and Law (PEL) activities at ISU and Head of the Space Policy and Entrepreneurship Lab (SPEL) was invited to participate in this year’s Summer School hosted by Nova School of Law in Lisbon (Portugal) to bring its space policy expertise to the ECSL participants. He presented in his lecture an overview of regional space activities outside Europe showing the changing space landscape. Prof Peter participated also in a panel discussion with Prof. Kai-Uwe Schrogl and Prof. Marco Ferrazzani both from ESA, Prof. Philippe Achilleas (University Paris-Saclay and ISU Global Faculty) and Prof. Jan Wouters (KU Leuven).
Prof. Peter stated “ISU and ECSL share the same ambitions to educate the workforce of tomorrow by fostering the exchange of information and encouraging the teaching of space policy and law. We will see more cooperation between ISU and ECSL in the future because of the obvious synergies and common interests”.
