On 30 June 2022, the International Space University – ISU- space incubator has been awarded by the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) the chance to be one of the hosts of the 4th CASSINI Hackathon to be held in November 2022.
In 2021, the European Commission launched the “Competitive Space Start-ups for Innovation initiative (CASSINI)” as a part of a broad effort in support of space entrepreneurship for a digital and sustainable Europe. Since then, about 60 events have been hosted around Europe.
ISU will host from 4 to 6 November 2022 – along 9 other cities in 10 different countries across Europe – space entrepreneurs who will work with ISU experts from ISU Central Campus, ISU start-ups and the broad ISU Community on topics linked to “Space for the Financial World”. During the 4th CASSINI Hackathon, participants are challenged to reimagine to the future of finance, insurance, and investments with the help of European space technologies. Three challenges have been identified for the theme of this Hackathon initiative.
Challenge #1: Enabling green and sustainable investment
Challenge #2: Innovating financial tools and technologies
Challenge #3: Advancing global market intelligence
Nicolas Peter Head of the Space Policy and Entrepreneurship Lab (SPEL) and involved in overseeing the ISU incubator states that “For ISU and its space incubator being selected by EUSPA to organize the upcoming CASSINI Hackathon is a testament of the strength of ISU in space entrepreneurship and an acknowledgment in its role of the new space economy. We hope to make this Hackathon a European success”.
